Our Vision

Bhendi Women’s Vision is to become a hub for stakeholders seeking the information, professional services, and legal structure required to create innovative housing solutions for older women confronting housing insecurity.

Our journey has just begun, and there is much work to be done. We need the support of individuals, businesses, institutions, and governments. Together, we must stop the slide into poverty and homelessness, that a growing number of single, older women are currently left to face in silence, and alone.

New Ground Co-Housing serves as an inspirational example of how a group of women developed an independent living co-housing community in London. They partnered with the Hanover Housing Assn to redevelop a school into a mix of owner-occupied and affordable rental housing that has transformed women's lives.

Our Mission

Our mission is to bring together the key stakeholders who possess the knowledge, need, funding, or authority to develop affordable housing for older women, living alone. These include:

  • Owners of hotels, apartments, or condominium complexes that seek a means to bolster occupancy.

  • Women struggling to retain ownership of their home, and women of financial means who are interested in taking a financial interest in those homes', while allowing the co-owner to stay residing there.

  • Home owners with vacant rooms in their residences, who are willing to rent our a room to a woman on our books, at an affordable rate.

  • Women with smaller amounts of cash, who are seeking to invest in property, with other women in a similar position.

  • developers, housing associations, building owners, and women interested in residing in a cohousing situation, where there are shared gardens and social spaces, but each residence has its own kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living area.

  • Land owners, small/ tiny home builders, developers, planners and local governments who seek to create hamlets where 6-12 homes share use of a site for micro-housing.

Our Beliefs

We believe everyone has the right to stable housing where they can age with dignity and be part of a safe and supportive community.

Our Values

  • Housing security

  • Financial resilience

  • Community belonging & wellbeing
